WOCN and ConvaTec Announce WOC Nurse Award
June 2009
This year, Great Comebacks® is very pleased to announce a new award in our U.S. program: The WOC Nurse Great Comebacks® Award.
The new recognition, honoring a WOC Nurse who has been instrumental in helping one of their patients achieve a “great comeback” after ostomy surgery, was introduced at the 41st Annual Conference of the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses (WOCN) Society in St. Louis on June 5th.
At the conference, WOCN President Jan Colwell along with Rolf, recognized 2008 National Award recipient Lisa Becker’s nurse, Amy Evans, of Tampa General Hospital. In Lisa’s words, coming home after surgery was just the beginning of her comeback, and it was her “angel” nurse Amy who went above and beyond, making home visits until Lisa could take care of herself again.
Since the beginning of the Great Comebacks® Program 25 years ago, behind every winner there usually stands an extraordinary nurse who has been key to that person’s emotional as well as physical recovery – with this new award, we’re proud to give an official Thank You to all of those special nurses!
