Sylvia Hebert Gets Set for Team Challenge Las Vegas
11/9/2010 flag

2009 recipient Sylvia Hebert is training hard for the next Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation’s Team Challenge Rock ‘n Roll Half Marathon event in Las Vegas December 5th, where she’ll proudly carry the banner for Team Great Comebacks®!

Last year, Sylvia raised about $2,000 for CCFA but this year her sights are much higher. She explains, “I decided to run this race because the last race I 'thought' I was running for CCFA but found out that I signed up on the race website directly and did not sign up through CCFA, so I missed out on that wonderful opportunity of running with the team. I registered properly this time and have been getting lots of support from the CCFA coaches! There are weekly phone calls to listen to for motivation and direction.

“Running is challenging for me, as I'm sure it is for most people. My motivation for running is for those who cannot run because they are laid up in bed very sick -- I have been given the gift of life and plan to use it in a positive way! I am not a big fan of running but if I can do it for a cause like CCFA, I'M IN!!! I am enjoying myself more and more. I continually think of those who have donated to me for this run and for those who are very sick and can barely put one foot in front of the other.”

She’s also getting some motivational support from her husband. “Training is going very well. My husband is running a marathon next week so he has been running and training with me. He is also my inspiration. I do not like to chat on my runs (that is the ONLY time I don't like to chat), but he knows all the right things to say to me when we run together! Some days are better than others. I have some issues with my knees but again, nothing I cannot handle! I am trying to stretch more this time around and I think it's helping. I look forward to running this race for those with an ostomy or suffering from IBD! Run run run run!!!”

To that, our reply can only be,“Go Sylvia Go!”
